SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: stromata immersed in bark and outer wood layers, very variable in shape and size, roundish to elongate, extending from a few mm to several cm diam., covered by a grey to black outer stromatic layer 20–80 μm thick, covering an indistinct internal stroma composed of hyphae interspersed with degraded wood tissue, containing one to numerous ascomata; externally visible only as minute circular ostiolar discs 50–180 μm diam., with umbilicate perforations. Ascomata perithecia, subglobose to oblate, 450–650 µm diam. and 300-400 µm high. Peridium consisting of a dark brown outer layer 15–40 μm thick of angular cells and a narrow hyaline to yellowish hyphal inner layer. Interascal tissue of simple paraphyses 3–4 μm diam., tapering towards the the apices. Asci (140–) 165–210 × 12.5–15 (–17) μm, cylindrical with a short stalk, thick-walled and appearing bitunicate, with a small but distinct ocular chamber and a minute thin amyloid subapical ring 3-4 μm diam. and 0.5-1 μm thick, (4- to) 8-spored. Ascospores (21.5–) 26–29 (–32) × (8.5–) 9–10 (–11.5) μm, cylindrical to ellipsoidal, rarely curved, light to yellow- or medium brown, with a central slightly constricted euseptum and 2–4 (–6) distosepta, occasionally with an oblique longitudinal septum, thick-walled, multiguttulate, when young with a thick sheath or small hyaline terminal caps.
