Stroma: absent.
Ascomata 250-350µm diam, solitary or clustered, immersed or partially exposed, the neck to 600µm in length and 100-130µm diam, black, base of the ascoma surrounded by a web of dark brown thick-walled hyphae. Peridium thick-walled, composed of several layers of thick-walled textura angularis, the cells somewhat smaller in the neck region. Interascal tissue not seen, periphyses well-developed. Asci 44-51 x 6-7µm, cylindrical, thin-walled at all stages, sometimes deliquescent at the base, the apex rounded to truncate, with an iodine-negative apical ring 2-3µm diam and ca 0.5µm thick, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged uniseriately, 5-6.5 x 3-3.5µm, ellipsoidal to cylindric-ellipsoidal, hyaline, aseptate, with 8-10 conspicuous longitudinal ridges making the spore appear polygonal in radial view, without a gelatinous sheath.
