Anamorph: not known. Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 300–330 μm diam., ± globose, immersed to partially erumpent or becoming superficial, solitary or in small groups, dark brown to black. Neck 90–100 μm diam., to 500 μm long, cylindrical, straight or slightly flexuous, glabrous, the apex sulcate. Ascomatal wall fragile to leathery, with an outer layer of thick-walled brown polyhedral cells, merging into an inner layer of thin-walled hyaline flattened cells. Interascal tissue of paraphyses, abundant, 7–10 μm diam., tapering to 2.5–3 μm near the apex, longer than the asci, becoming evanescent with age, constricted at the septa. Asci 62–70 × 6.5–7.5 (–8.5) μm, ± cylindrical, rounded to ± truncate at the apex, with a short stalk, with an apical ring ca 2.5 μm diam. and 1.5 μm thick that does not stain in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores 8–9 (-10) × 4–5 μm, ellipsoidal, hyaline, longitudinally striate, initially 1-septate but becoming 2- (rarely) or 3-septate with age, usually with a large guttule within each cell.
