Anamorph: conidiomata acervular, 1–4 mm diam, blackish, scattered or occasionally confluent, with a central or eccentric stromatic column; at maturity covered by black discharged conidial masses; usually conspicuous. Conidiophores (17–) 26–37 (–45) × (4–) 5–6.5 (–7.5) μm, cylindrical to lageniform, simple, rarely branched at the base, smooth, subhyaline to pale brown. Conidiogenous cells annellidic with distinct annellations, integrated. Conidia (15–) 19–23 (–28.5) × (9.5–) 12–14.5 (–17) μm, broadly ellipsoidal to broadly ovoid, truncate with a distinct scar at the base, aseptate, hyaline when immature, brown to blackish when mature, densely multiguttulate, thick-walled, with distinct ornamentation on the inside of the wall consisting of irregular confluent verrucae 0.5–1.5 (–2.5) μm diam, with a gelatinous sheath ca 1 µm thick. Teleomorph: pseudostromata 0.8–2 mm diam, typically inconspicuous, circular, slightly projecting, the perithecia not domed. Ectostromatic disc indistinct, circular or oblong, dark grey, brown or black, 0.5–1.2 (–2.3) mm diam., often concealed by densely arranged ostioles, often pulvinate. Central column yellowish, greenish to brownish grey. Entostroma indistinct. Ostioles 1–25 per disc, (95–)130–175 (–210) μm diam., plane or slightly papillate, black. Ascomata perithecia, (375–) 450–550 (–650) μm diam., arranged in various configurations. Asci (125–) 140–160 (–185) × (14–) 17.5–22.5 (–25 μm, clavate to fusiform, with an indistinct apical ring when fresh 3.5–4.5 μm diam. and 3.5–4 μm high, not visible in older specimens, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged uniseriately or obliquely biseriately, (20.5–) 24.5–29 (–36.5) × (6.5–) 8.5–11 (–12.5) μm, ellipsoidal or broadly fusiform, usually slightly to distinctly curved, distinctly constricted at the septum, hyaline, without appendages; cells usually distinctly dimorphic, the upper cell mostly larger, with a rounded to subacute end, lower cell subacute to narrowly rounded, multiguttulate, usually containing one large and numerous small guttules per cell; wall ca 0.5 μm thick, not swelling.
