Hysteropatella prostii  

Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascostromata 250–900 × 120–350 μm, hysterothecial, gregarious or in small clusters, erumpent, fusiform in surface view, the ends acute, strongly carbonized, with a longitudinal slit and the hymenium frequently remaining exposed even in dry conditions. Outer wall 15–35 μm thick, two-layered, the outer layer composed of small globose to angular cells, heavily encrusted with melanized pigments and the inner layer of thin-walled, ± hyaline compressed cells. Interascal tissue composed of cellular, cylindrical, branched pseudoparaphyses embedded in a gelatinous matrix with a melanized epithecial surface layer. Asci 73-88 x 13-16 μm, cylindric-clavate, with a fairly short tapering stalk, the apex rounded and strongly thickened, fissitunicate with an ocular chamber visible when immature, 8–spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, (15-) 16.5-18 (-21) x 6-7.5 μm, ovoid-cylindrical to cylindric-ellipsoidal, 3–septate at maturity, slightly constricted at the primary (median) septum with the upper part often slightly wider than the lower, fairly thick-walled, mid to dark brown with the septa thickened and more strongly pigmented, smooth, apparently without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
