SUMMARY
Description contributed by Graham Kinsey (CABI).
Anamorph: unknown.
Teleomorph: ascostromata 0.5-0.75 x 0.3 mm. Peridium with side walls composed of fused interwoven brown-walled hyphae, basal region similar and with loosely interwoven brown marginal hyphae extending into the substrate, with a layer of hyaline cells forming the floor of the cavity. Interascal tissue composed of paraphysoids, equal to the asci and ca 2 µm wide, rarely branched. Asci 72-86 x 10-13 µm, cylindrical, tapered at the base, apex conical-truncate with a shallow internal ring. Ascospores (16-)20-24 x 4 µm, 3- to 5-septate, with a two-layered sheath, inner layer 1 µm thick, outer layer 3 µm thick.
The GB & I material (IMI 313164) has asci and ascospores that are larger than those originally described (asci 50 x 15 µm and ascospores 12-15 x 5-6 µ). However, in the absence of a modern account this remains the best placement. There is some doubt as to the true identity of type material of the species.
