SUMMARY
Mycelium 2.5-3.5 µm diam., dark brown, thick-walled, superficial and surrounding the ascomata within cavities in the substratum. Appressoria 2.5-3.5 µm diam., lateral, ± semicircular in horizontal section, similar in pigmentation and wall thickness to the mycelium, with a rather poorly defined pale spot in the centre above the penetration point.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 350-450 µm diam. and 300-400 µm tall, subglobose to oblate, hardly papillate, the ostiole inconcpicuous, immersed in the substratum and only visible from the outside as a blackish stain on the surface. Peridium black, thin-walled, composed of an outer layer of dark brown angular cells to ca 8 µm and an inner layer of paler brown, larger and thinner-walled cells. Interascal tissue inconspicuous, composed of very thin-walled, gradually tapering hyphae 5-6 µm diam. at the base. Asci in a basal fascicle, 110-125 x 8-9 µm, narrowly cylindric-clavate, the apex obtuse, with a short and gradually tapering stalk, thin-walled, not fissitunicate, with a conspicuous refractive apical ring 1.5-2 µm diam. and 1.5-2 µm tall that does not blue in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged in a fascicle, 65-75 x 2.5-3 µm, cylindrical, gradually tapering towards the ends and more so towards the base, aseptate, hyaline, multiguttulate, fairly thin-walled, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
