Family: NectriaceaeGenus: Fusicolla
SUMMARY
Anamorph: Fusarium-like. Microconidia not produced. Macroconidia 8-22 × 2-.5 μm when 0- to 1-septate, (25-) 30-38 (-44) × (4-) 4.5-5.5 μm when 3-septate, narrowly fusiform, falcate, acute at both ends, hyaline, smooth.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, (190-) 220-250 (-260) μm diam. and (230-) 250-290 (-300) μm high, superficial, solitary or in groups of 2–4, on the host stroma surface or sometimes on bark around stromata, the base remaining slightly immersed in the substratum, obpyriform, smooth, pale yellow to pale orange, laterally collapsing when dry, not changing colour in 3 % KOH but turning orange in lactic acid, with a broadly conical, rounded neck 40-60 μm high and 60-80 μm diam., composed of cylindrical, pale yellow cells that are narrowly clavate at the tip. Peridium composed of angular cells in surface view with cells to 20 μm in greatest dimension, covered by very thick-walled pale yellow hyphae 5-6 µm diam. arising from base of the perithecium, developing to form a crown around ostiolar region. Interascal tissue of thin-walled deliquescent moniliform paraphyses to 6-8 μm diam. at the base. Asci (60-) 70-80 (-85) x (9-) 10-12 (-14) μm, cylindrical to narrowly clavate, short-stalked, apically truncate when immature, becoming rounded when mature, with a faint apical ring-like thickening, 8-spored. Ascospores (10-) 12-14 (-15) x 4.5-5 (-5.5) μm, ellipsoidal, the ends rounded 1-septate, slightly constricted at the septum, hyaline to pale golden brown when mature, spinulose.
