SUMMARY
Sori infecting scattered florets within the inflorescence, initially as ovoid to cylindrical bodies concealed by the gynoecium, later extending beyond the floret, covered in a pale grey to pale brown membrane which fragments to expose the olivaceous brown spore mass, accompanied by numerous, prominent fascicles of vegetative hyphae which often extend beyond the sori. Spores very variable in shape and size, 3-7 x 3-12 µm, subglobose, ovoid or elongate, often with truncate ends, sometimes curved or pyriform to ovoid, pale olivaceous brown, the surface finely verruculose.
