Nomenclature

Unranked: PseudoperisporiaceaeGenus: Epipolaeum
SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata perithecial, developing from superficial vegetative hyphae running along the furrowed veins of the adaxial face of the host leaf; 80-100 µm diam., ± pyriform with a short wide truncate neck ca 60 µm diam. and 30 µm tall. Peridium composed of dark brown thick-walled angular cells 6-9 µm diam., apparently without an inner layer. Interascal tissue not seen (but described as sparse septate interthecial threads by Holm, 1979). Asci few (<10), 50-55 x 20-25 µm, saccate to ovoid with a short stalk, the apex rounded, rather thin-walled and possibly not fissitunicate, apical structures not clearly visible, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged irregularly, 14.5-16 x 7.5-8.5 µm, broadly clavate, with a slightly constricted submedian septum, becoming pale brown, thin- and smooth-walled, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
