Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, immersed in the thallus, more rarely in apothecia of the host lichen, 120-140 µm diam. (measured from the surface), subglobose, the ostiolar region blackened and often slightly flattened. Peridium brown, 20-30 µm thick, strongly thickened around the area ostiole, with a ring of septate periphysoids lining the ostiole. Interascal tissue absent, the hymenial gel I+ blue. Asci 50-65 x 17-20 µm, Verrucaria-like, broadly clavate, short-stalked, 8-spored. Ascospores 12-14.5 x 5.5-6.5 µm, fusiform to fusiform-ellipsoidal, dark brown, the ends obtuse, not constricted at the median septum, initially with a narrow perispore and distinctly verrucose, when mature ± smooth and thick-walled, the septum narrower than the outer wall but sometimes with a darker torus.
