SUMMARY
Lesions circular, white to greyish at the centre, purple-black at the margin. Leaf lesions to 1 mm diam., amphigenous, often discolouring the surrounding leaf red. Stem lesions orbicular, to 2 mm diam. Affected fruit often deformed.
Anamorph: Sphaceloma necator (Ellis & Everh.) Jenkins & Shear (1946). Conidiomata formed amidst leaf lesions. Conidia 5-7 x 2-3 µm.
Teleomorph: Stromata to 150 µm diam, subepidermal, partly erumpent, splitting apart in a stellate manner when mature. Asci 25-30 µm diam. Ascospores 18-21 x 6-8 µm, hyaline or pale yellow, 3-septate, constricted at the septa, with a gelatinous sheath.
