Anamorph: Phomopsis aquilina (C. Massal.) Petr. (1921). Conidiomata 300-600 x 50-100 x 100-250 µm. Conidiogenous cells 10-15 x 1 µm. Alpha-conidia 4.5-7 x 1.5-2 µm; beta-conidia 18-30 x 1 µm.
Teleomorph: stromata 0.5-3 x 0.2-0.5 mm, appearing on the host surface as fusiform to elongate-oblong, dark, isolated areas which are faintly to definitely outlined by blackened marginal zone lines, ventral zone lines definite within the host stem. Ascomata 240-400 µm diam, scattered singly, separately erumpent, ostioles barely emergent. Asci ca 64 x 13 µm. Ascospores 11-12 x 3.5-4.5(-5) µm, narrowly ellipsoidal-fusiform, 2- to 3-guttulate.
