Anamorph: Phomopsis leycesteriae Grove (1930). Conidiomata 200-300 µm diam. Alpha-conidia 5-7 x 2-2.5 µm; beta-conidia 20-28 x 1 µm.
Teleomorph: stromata appearing on host surface as discoloured areas ruptured by barely emergent ostioles, with thin black zone lines that that encircle areas of 0.5-0.8 mm diam and sometimes dip into the wood, entostroma grey-black. Ascomata subglobose, scattered singly in bark, rarely in small groups of 2-3, ostioles short and barely exceeding the host surface, by ca 0.1 mm. Asci 52-55 x 5-8 µm, clavate. Ascospores 11-15 x 3-4 µm, ellipsoidal-cylindrical, slightly constricted at the septum, 2- to 4-guttulate.
