Anamorph: Phomopsis intermedia (Sacc.) Traverso (1906). Conidiogenous cells 20 x 0.5 µm. Alpha-conidia 6 x 2.5 µm.
Teleomorph: stromata spreading widely often with the wood stained brownish beyond, outermost wood blackened and surrounded by a black zone line, host bark persisting. Ascomata 250 µm diam, globose, immersed in wood, separate, rarely in small groups, ostioles cylindrical-conical and just exceeding the host surface. Asci 50 x 6 µm. Ascospores 12-14 x 3.5-4 µm, eventually constricted at the septum, ends abruptly acute, 4-guttulate.
