Anamorph: Phomopsis incarcerata (Sacc.) Höhn. (1906). Conidiogenous cells 20 x 1 µm. Alpha-conidia 8 x 2 µm; possible beta-conidia 24-30 x 1 µm.
Teleomorph: Stromata on host surface as numerous papillate swellings or circular ruptures of the periderm, surface of the bark irregularly blackened, ventral zone definite in wood. Ascomata usually scattered singly and singly erumpent. Ascospores 11-14 x 2.5-4 µm.
Wehmeyer considered this to belong within the D. eres aggregate.
