SUMMARY
Description contributed by Graham Kinsey, CABI, based on Wehmeyer (1933).
Anamorph: Phomopsis occulta (Sacc.) Traverso (1906). Conidiophores 6-15(-24) x 1-3 µm. Alpha-conidia (5-)7-11(-14) x (1.5-)2-2.5(-3) µm; beta-conidia 20-27 x 1 µm.
Teleomorph: stromata on the host surface as minute pustules or pustulate ruptures through which the ostioles are erumpent, dorsal blackening irregular or present only around the ostioles, ventral zone definite in bark, entostroma limited in area. Ascomata irregularly scattered or loosely grouped, ostioles fine filiform often somewhat elongate or sinuous and erumpent separately or in small clusters. Ascospores 9-12 x 2.5-4 µm.
Wehmeyer considered this to belong to the D. eres aggregate. The ostioles which are fine-filiform and often elongate and sinuous warrant comparison with the 'rudis' group. The anamorphic state on conifers is very confused.
