Delitschia furfuracea  

Anamorph: unknown.

Teleomorph: Stromata absent. Ascomata 350-450µm diam, black, immersed, with a widely papillate neck to 200µm in length, the lower part covered in hyaline hyphae. Peridium composed of several layers of dark brown textura angularis. Interascal tissue of copious trabeculate anastomosing pseudoparaphyses. Asci 180-235 x 40-44µm, widely cylindrical to saccate, very short-stalked, the apex rounded, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately or partially obliquely uniseriately, 44.5-51 x 19-21.5µm, very thick-walled, dark brown, with a median transverse septum, hardly constricted at the septum, the ends obtuse, with narrow straight germ slits and a wide gelatinous sheath.

The biseriate nature of the ascospores is not always easy to detect, and those of the only collection seen are slightly smaller than the figures quoted by Luck-Allen & Cain (1975). A careful comparison should be made with D. patagonica and D. winteri.
