SUMMARY
Anamorph: Vegetative mycelium partly superficial and partly immersed in the substratum, composed of pale brown smooth-walled hyphae 1.5-5 µm diam. Stromata very variable in size, 1-2 mm diam. and 400-500 µm tall, erumpent, hemispherical or pulvinate, sometimes aggregating to form extensive effuse mats; dark brown to black, appearing powdery due to copious production of conidia from the surface layer, the inner part composed of loose intertwined hyphae and the outer layer more compacted. Conidiophores developing from the outer layer of the stroma, 100-500 µm in length and 6-12.5 µm diam., erect, unbranched, straight or slightly curved, 0- to 2-septate, the apical cell dark brown very thick-walled and slightly swollen and the subtending cells paler and thinner-walled, the apex rounded and sometimes with up to four ovoid to subglobose terminal proliferations. Conidia formed singly or in short chains through a pore in the apex of the conidiophore, which may proliferate through the pore; 90-250 µm in length and 12-18 µm diam. at the broadest point, ± cylindrical to narrowly obclavate with the upper part variably extended and then tapering irregularly to a ± cylindrical upper part 8-12 µm diam. near the apex, straight or irregularly curved, the apex rounded, very thick-walled (to ca 6 µm) and (4-) 7- to 10-distoseptate, smooth or rarely inconspicuously warted, golden brown, the apical cells sometimes paler and thinner-walled, the basal scar prominent and almost black.
Teleomorph: not known.
