Family: ThelebolaceaeGenus: Coprotus
SUMMARY
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 200-600 µm diam., scattered to gregarious, sessile, initially ± globose and becoming cupulate to discoid, initially translucent white and becoming pale yellow to ochraceous, the margin often slightly darker in colour than the disc. Peridium composed of globose to angular cells to 10-12 µm diam. at the base, the marginal cells clavate but hardly elongated, without carotenoid pigments in the cellular cytoplasm. Interascal tissue composed of septate filiform paraphyses 1.5-2 µm diam., the apices inflated to 5-8 µm diam., irregular but not strongly curved at the apex, with sparse yellowish cytoplasmic oil guttules. Asci 30-55 x 15-30 µm, broadly clavate, very short-stalked, not forked at the base, the apices rounded, fairly thick-walled, no iodine reaction, 8-spored. Ascospores biseriately arranged, 9-15 x 6.5-9.5 µm, ellipsoidal, aseptate, hyaline, smooth, thick-walled especially when immature, each with a de Bary bubble, without a gelatinous sheath or perispore.
