SUMMARY
Anamorph: Exophiala sp. fide Barr (1991). Conidiophores unbranched or branched, conidiogenous cells integrated or terminal, conidia 3.5-4.5 x 2-2.5 µm, ellipsoidal, greyish brown, aseptate.
Teleomorph: ascomata 110-130 µm diam., superficial, scattered, ± globose, black, with short brown tapering aseptate acute-ended setae 10-20 x 2-2.5 µm forming a cone surrounding the ostiolar opening, and longer irregularly curved obtuse-ended setae 18-30 x 3-5.5 µm scattered over the surface of the ascomata. Peridium brown, the outer layer composed of thick-walled angular cells 4-9 X 3-5 µm in size. Interascal tissue not seen. Asci 51-64 x 10-11.5 µm, narrowly obclavate to cylindrical, with rostrate dehiscence, containing an apical ring that is indistinct in both unstained preparations and in Melzer's reagent, young asci with a thickened and elongated endotunica, mature asci thinner-walled, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, (16.1-) 18.5-21.5 x 5.3-6.2 µm, at first hyaline, becoming grey-brown, clavate-cylindrical with obtuse to acute ends, with 5 transverse septa when mature, strongly constricted somewhat at the septa, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
