SUMMARY
Ascomata 800-1200 x 450-700 µm, usually in small clusters, ovoid to cylindrical, dark reddish brown to black, the ostiolar region darker, indistinct, hardly papillate. Peridium composed of an outer thin layer of heavily melanized dark brown textura angularis, a thick median layer of ± hyaline textura intricata within a gelatinous matrix, and an inner layer of pale brown thin-walled flattened textura angularis. Interascal tissue of paraphyses, copious, filform, longer than the asci. Asci 260-320 x 20-23 µm, cylindrical with a long tapering stalk, fairly thin-walled, the apex rounded to truncate with a very distinct thickened J- apical ring, 4-spored. Ascospores (23-)25-31(-34) x 16-19(-20) µm, ellipsoidal to ovoid, aseptate, thick-walled, smooth, becoming dark brown, with a large apical germ pore and a usually less conspicuous basal pore, and a wide gelatinous sheath.
Anamorph: unknown.
