Family: RamalinaceaeGenus: Bacidina
SUMMARY
Thallus absent, lichenicolous.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 140-250 (-290) µm diam., scattered or in small clusters, almost sessile. Disc flat to slightly convex, cream, the margin slightly raised and slightly paler at first but becoming excluded. Hypothecium 40-80 µm tall, colourless, poorly differentiated. Hymenium 45-55 µm tall; hymenial gel reddish brown in Lugol's iodine. Paraphyses unbranched, ca 1.5 µm diam., thin-walled, the apical cell pyriform to ± globose, ca 3.5 µm diam. Asci 35-41 x 5-6.5 (-8) µm, shortly cylindrical, short-stalked, fairly thick-walled, the apex obtuse to rounded with a well-developed tholus that blues in Lugol's iodine, a central channel not clearly differentiated, and an outer layer of K+ blue gel, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged in a fascicle, usually helically coiled, 38.5-43 x 1.6-2 µm, filiform to very narrowly clavate, sometimes sigmoidally curved after release, eventually 3-septate, hyaline, thin- and smooth-walled, without a perispore or appendages.
