SUMMARY
Thallus crustose, grey-green, turning whitish in herbarium material, thin, irregularly cracked to areolate with areoles 0.1-0.4 mm diam., the edge with a white, arachnoid prothallus to 0.5 mm wide, sorediate. Soralia pale green, discrete and developing from the surface of areoles, 0.15-0.3 mm diam., or irregular and developing from margins of areoles. Soredia 30-50 μm diam., photobiont cells 6-12 (-14) μm diam.
Anamorph: not known.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 0.3-1 mm diam., at first flat and thickly marginate, soon convex and immarginate, pale red-brown to dark grey-brown. Thalline exciple absent. True exciple hyaline or with the upper and outer parts pale orange or pink, sometimes mottled brown (K+ purplish brown), hyphae 7-12 × 2-4 μm with ± rectangular lumina. Hymenium 80-95 μm high, hyaline or pale yellow-brown in places in the upper part, I+ blue. Hypothecium hyaline or pale straw, K ± yellow. Interascal tissue of paraphyses 1.5-2 μm diam., unbranched, the apices only slightly widening to 2.5 (-3) μm diam. Asci cylindric-clavate, 8-spored. Ascospores 12-18 × 4-4.5 μm, fusiform-ellipsoidal to fusiform, (1-) 3-septate, hyaline, without a perispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
Chemistry: no lichen substances detected by TLC.
