SUMMARY
Stromata: absent.
Ascomata: 700-900 µm diam, pyriform to ovoid, the body globose to ellipsoidal, ± superficial, appearing cephalothecoid, covered with thick-walled dark brown mycelial hairs, the neck conic-cylindrical, to 330 x 300 µm, periphysate, usually covered with short rigid cylindrical thick-walled obtuse brown hairs (sometimes hyaline-tipped) to 70 µm in length. Peridium membanaceous, composed of three layers; the outer of pale brown irregular rather thin-walled textura angularis covered with areoles composed of dark hyphal aggregations, grading into the innermost layer composed of ± hyaline flattened cells. Interascal tissue of filiform paraphyses, inflated between the septa. Asci 530-600 x 35-43 µm, narrowly cylindric-clavate with a long tapering stalk, fairly thin-walled at all stages, the apex obtuse, apparently without an apical ring, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, often uniseriate below, 47-58 x 22-28 µm, ellipsoidal, dark brown and thick-walled, smooth, aseptate, with an apical and a basal germ pore, and subapical and subbasal elongate gelatinous appendages 20-50 x 8 x 6 µm in size, flattened in section with a longitudinal furrow, sometimes weakly transversely striate.
Anamorph: unknown.
