SUMMARY
Stromata: absent.
Ascomata 450-500 µm diam, pyriform, the body ± globose, semi-immersed to almost superficial, matt black, covered with flexuous brown mycelial hairs, the neck conical to cylindrical, to 400 µm in length, periphysate, covered with thick-walled rigid cylindrical hairs to 240 µm long and 3.5-5 µm diam. Peridium membanaceous, composed of three layers; the outer of pale brown irregular rather thin-walled textura angularis with cells to 15 µm diam, the innermost layer composed of ± hyaline flattened cells. Interascal tissue indistinct. Asci 250-300 x 35-40 µm, cylindric-clavate with a long tapering stalk, fairly thin-walled at all stages, the apex rounded to truncate without an apical ring, 8-spored. Ascospores arranged biseriately, 35-40(-43) x 17-19(-23) µm, ellipsoidal to fusiform-ellipsoidal, sometimes slightly inaequilateral, dark brown and thick-walled, smooth, aseptate, with apical and basal germ pores, and tapering elongate subapical and subbasal appendages 50-75 x 5-8 µm, round and hollow in cross-section.
