Sclerophora farinacea
General description:
Ascomata 0.7-1.2 mm tall. Stalk medium brown, epruinose, shiny. True exciple well-developed, raised; lower surface of head with thick white crystalline pruina. Ascospores 7-8 μm diam., with wart-like ornamentation.
Conservation status:
Considered to be Extinct in Great Britain & Ireland (Coppins & Woods 2012).
Diagnostic description:
Similar to Sclerophora pallida but with longer stalks (0.7-1.2 versus 0.4-0.7 mm) that are brown rather than yellowish when mature.
Distribution:
Formerly reported from two sites in E England, in Teesdale and S Essex.
Habitat:
On bark of old deciduous trees.
