Description: 

Fuscidea austera, specimen (Powell 2298) from sandstone boulder, Derbyshire. The thallus is brown and rimose-cracked. The apothecia are large, sessile and have sinuous margins. The specimen was growing in a typical situation, on the shaded vertical side of the boulder.
