Alyxoria ochrocheila dwg
Alyxoria ochrocheila, drawing showing ascospores. The scale bar relates to the top spore (the lower spores are not necessarily accuarately to scale). The upper spore is mounted in water and is towards the upper end of the size range for A. ochrocheila. This indicates that the width overlaps slightly with those in A. culmigena. A thin perispore is present which swells slightly in K (shown in lower left spore). Although the second cell is the broadest, it is almost always of similar length to the other cells. By contrast, in A. culmigena the second cell is often longer as well as broader than the other cells. The septa in A. ochrocheila are evenly thin across their span whereas the septa in A. culmigena spores tend to thicken as the septa approach the spore wall.
