Thallus ± absent (usually lichenicolous). Anamorph: conidiomata pycnidia flask-shaped, 40-60 μm diam. and 70-100 µm high, flask-shaped, yellow-pruinose above. Conidia 4-7 × 1.2-1.6 μm, aseptate to 2-septate. Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 100-170 µm diam. and 150-200 µm high, immersed only at the base, ovoid or conical, strongly yellow-pruinose, not surrounded by an algal sheath. Peridium 15-30 μm thick, hyaline. Hymenial gel I+ red (I+ blue at low concentrations of iodine), K/I+ blue. Interascal tissue of unbranched paraphyses, as long as the asci. Asci flask-shaped, strongly attenuated in the apical region, wall I–, apex unthickened, sometimes containing a thin, I+ blue structure in young asci, multispored. Ascospores 4-6 × 1.7-2 μm, cylindrical with almost truncate ends, not or slightly constricted in the mid portion, aseptate, hyaline, thin-walled, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
