Thallus superficial, white or grey, rarely brownish, usually semi-immersed, smooth, cracked or not, often dotted with minute pale spots apparently formed from plugs of fungal tissue above undeveloped ascomata. Anamorph: no information available. Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, forming projections (250-) 300-700 (-850) µm diam., not covered by the thallus, black or sometimes grey due to a superficial colourless layer; ostiole inconspicuous or somewhat depressed. Involucrellum well-developed. Peridium hyaline to brown below. Ascospores (16.5-) 21-28.5 (-36.5) × (7.5-) 10-13.5 (-16.5) μm, 1-septate at a late stage of development.
