SUMMARY
Thallus often exceeding 30 cm diam, forming large rosettes or irregularly branched; lobes 5-10(-15) cm wide, with rounded apices, sinuate-indented, wavy, discrete at apices, contiguous and overlapping towards centre; upper surface grey-white when dry, green-grey when wet, thick, wrinkled or smooth, often with scattered pycnidia in conical warts to 0.7 mm diam.; cephalodia to 2 cm diam., occasionally absent, ± shrubby, dark blue-green-brown to brown-black; lower surface tomentose, pale brown, paler towards margin. Photobiont green algae in thallus and cyanobacteria (Nostoc) in richly branched, shrubby cephalodia.
Anamorph: conidiomata pycnidia, frequent, convex, ostiole black; conidia simple, bacilliform, 4-5 × 1-1.5 μm.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, occasional; disc red-brown. Ascospores 40-60 × 6-7 μm, 1- to 3-septate.
Chemistry: medulla C–, K± pale yellow, KC± deep pink, Pd–, (m-scrobiculin [major], p-scrobiculin [submajor], pseudocyphellarin A [minor], unknown scrobiculin derivative [trace].
