Thallus crustose, effused, endolithic, pale pink, matt, continuous or with a few fine cracks. Thallus cortex absent. Photobiont layer ill-defined, reaching to ca 160 µm into the thallus. Fungal cells of photobiont layer 5–10 × 3.5–6 µm, isodiametric to shortly elongate, medulla composed of hyphae with chains of swollen cells, constricted at the septa, the cells 8–11 × 5–9 µm, each containing a single oil droplet. Photobiont Trentepohlia. Anamorph: conidiomata pycnidia, immersed in the thallus, abundant and scattered over the whole thallus, ostiole easily visible as a pit or an irregular, sometimes triradiate, crack; unilocular, sometimes with irregular wall thickening, the wall hyaline, composed of ± isodiametric cells 4–5·5 µm diam. Conidiogenous cells hardly differentiated from the wall cells, lining the pycnidial cavity, not proliferating. Conidia 9–18·5 × 5·5–10·5 µm, not in chains, irregularly shaped but mostly cylindric-ellipsoidal, hyaline, formed of irregular clusters of 5–15 or more cells, each cell containing one or more oil droplets. Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 120-260 µm diam., 60-100 µm diam. at the thallus surface, immersed, the thalline margin flat or slightly raised, not or hardly distinguishable from the surrounding thallus, often surrounded by an irregular concentric crack; radial cracks absent. Disc pale pink, smooth, concave, sunken below the level of the margin. True exciple thin, hyaline, 25–50 µm wide at the apex, adjacent to hymenium the cells are hyaline, angular, isodiametric to oblong and measuring 3·5–6·5 × 3·3–5 µm; below the subhymenium the exciple is thin, indistinct, ca 4–8 µm thick. Hymenium ca 90 µm thick, hyaline, I- (+ faint blue at low concentration of iodine), K/I + blue. Interascal tissue of unbranched paraphyses 2-3 µm diam. with numerous septa, the apex not or scarcely widened, 2–3·5 µm diam., without coloured oil droplets or other pigments. Asci thin-walled, K/I + blue, 8-spored. Ascospores 16·5–25 × 5·5–7·5 µm, 3-septate, ellipsoidal, hyaline, slightly constricted at the septa, the cells containing oil droplets. Gelatinous perispore present, diffuse, 2–4 µm thick, inconspicuous under normal lighting conditions but revealed when Indian Ink is added to a preparation. Interascal tissue of slender, simple, thinly septate paraphyses 1-1.5 µm diam., scarcely swollen at the colourless apices; periphyses absent. Asci 150-250 × 12-18 µm, ± cylindrical, the wall thin, with a single functional layer, J+ blue; without a distinct apical dome, 8-spored. Ascospores (15-)17-23(-35) × 5-7 µm (excluding the perispore), mostly 3-septate, rarely submuriform, hyaline, fusiform, with a distinct perispore.
