Anamorph: not known. Teleomorph: stromata absent. Ascomata perithecia, 150-260µm diam, black, globose or ampulliform, superficial, with a cylindrical or slightly tapering neck to 300 (-750) µm long and 60-85 µm diam, the neck and upper part of the ascoma covered with dark brown thick-walled septate appendages to 2000µm long and 4-6µm broad at the base, the tips often curved or circinate. Peridium fairly thick and leathery, composed of 3-5 layers of flattened brown angular tissue with cells to 8µm diam., bearing some hyaline straight or undulate lateral hairs. Interascal tissue absent. Asci formed from a basal fascicle, 22-30 x 15-22 µm, obovoid or clavate, very thin-walled, without apical structures, evanescent, 8-spored. Ascospores 7-11 x 5.5-7.5 µm, ellipsoidal or broadly fusiform, aseptate, smooth, at first hyaline but becoming pale brown or copper coloured when mature, with distinct germ pores at both ends, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
