Anamorph: not known, isidia and soredia absent. Teleomorph: Thallus crustose, epilithic, occasionally thin and semi-endolithic, granular or irregularly granular-areolate, yellow-orange to orange, K+ purple. Areoles 80-165 (-210) µm diam, Algae protococcoid. Ascomata apothecial, 0.3-0.75 (-1.5) mm diam, sessile, constricted at the base, round or irregular in form, single or confluent, K+ purple. Disc flat or slightly convex, becoming strongly convex in old ascomata, golden yellow. Thalline margin at first thick and prominent, becoming somewhat crenulate and less prominent. Proper margin present. Interascal tissue of simple or sparsely branched paraphyses, septate, 1.5-3 µm diam, thickened at the apex to 3-6 (-7) µm diam. Asci 40-60 (-75) x 14-17 (-22) µm, Teloschistes type, clavate, (6-) 8-spored. Ascospores (7-)9–13(-17,5) x (5)6–8(9) μm, widely ellipsoidal, polarilocular with walls 1-2 (-3) µm thick and septum (3-) 3.5-5.5 (-6.5) µm thick, the locules reduced giving the appearance of an hour-glass.
