Thallus chalk-white to pale grey or brownish, of circular, rounded areoles 0.2-1.2 (-1.8) mm diam., mostly scattered but sometimes becoming crowded and angular, matt, often convex, sometimes with darker margins. Prothallus white to pale grey, effuse, visible between areoles but indistinct at the perimeter. Anamorph: no information available. Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 0.2-0.6 (-0.8) mm diam., mostly one per areole, sometimes occupying the entire areole, crateriform, the rim slightly raised, corrugated and sometimes appearing weakly toothed. Epithecium olive, K+ yellow-orange, N+ green. Asci 140-180 x 30-42 µm, cylindrical to saccate-clavate, fairly short-stalked, rather thick-walled but not fissitunicate, the apex rounded with a very large thickened region, with a I+ blue outer gelatinous coat but otherwise not staining in iodine, frequently fewer than 8-spored. Ascospores 22-26 × 15-19 μm, ellipsoidal, somewhat irregular in shape, aseptate, hyaline, thin- and smooth-walled, without a gelatinous sheath or epispore. Chemistry: thallus K–, Pd–, no lichen substances detected.
