Ascomata 150-200 µm diam, ± spherical to oblate, pale grey to olivaceous, rhizoids inconspicuous. Peridium pale brown, composed of angular cells 7-15 µm diam, the upper part covered in hairs and the ostiolar region more strongly pigmented. Ascomatal hairs dimorphic, one type short, tapering and verrucose and the other very long, ± smooth, rather thick-walled flexuous hypha-like hairs 4-5 µm diam. Interascal tissue absent. Asci 30-40 x 10-13 µm, clavate, long-stalked, evanescent at an early stage, 8-spored. Ascospores 7-9 x 6-7 x 5-6 µm, widely fusiform to weakly limoniform, slightly flattened laterally, hyaline and dextrinoid when young, pale grey-brown when mature, with a minute apical germ pore.
Aerial mycelium usually sparse, white, without coloured exudates.
