Anamorph: not known. Teleomorph: ascomata perithecia, 100-160 µm diam., ostiolate, scattered or in small clusters, superficial and immersed only at the base when mature, subglobose to obpyriform, black, densely setose in the upper part. Setae 35-60 µm long and 4-5 µm diam. at the base, often curved towards the ostiole, tapering gradually towards the acuminate apex, dark brown, unbranched, aseptate, smooth, thick-walled, arising from a discrete dark foot-cell or directly from the peridium. Peridium 10-15 µm thick, to 18-20 (-25) µm near the ostiole, composed of 5-8 layers of compressed angular cells, the outermost layers dark brown, darkest near the ostiole, the inner layers pale brown to fuscous. Interascal tissue absent but with periphyses lining the ostiole, that become dark brown where exposed. Asci 67-90 x 16-19 µm (65-80 x 22-30 µm fide Hawksworth 1989), broadly clavate to cylindrical, the apex strongly thickened, at first rounded but becoming attenuated and penetrated by a long narrow internal apicalbeak, discharge fissitunicate, 8-spored. Ascospores 14.5-18 x 7.5-8.5 x 5.5-6.5 µm (13-) 15-21 (-27) x 7.5-9 µm fide Hawksworth 1989), ellipsoidal to broadly fusiform, laterally flattened, the apices obtuse, pale olivaceous to golden brown, with 2-4 transverse septa and one incomplete longitudinal septum (visible only on the broad face), fairly thick-walled, smooth, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
