Thallus crustose, 1-2 mm diam., grey, sometimes inconspicuous, often densely covered with apothecia. Anamorph: no information available. Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia 200-400 µm diam., the thalline margin grey, irregular and evanescent, not contorted. Disc orange-brown to rust-red, ± flat. Interascal tissue of paraphyses ca 1.5 μm diam., apically branched and slightly inflated to ca 4 μm diam. Ascospores 9-12 × 5-6.5 μm, ellipsoidal, the septum 1/3-1/4 the length of the spore. Chemistry: thallus K–, epihymenial layer K+ purple, unidentified anthraquinone.
