Anamorph: not known. Teleomorph: ascomata arthonioid apothecia, 400-700 µm diam. and 100-150 µm high, single or in small clusters, rather irregular in outline, usually cushion-shaped, black, erumpent through the host cortex and sometimes appearing gall-forming. Exciple 10-15 µm thick at the edges, grading into a granular to amorphous epithecial layer above, dark brown to black, composed of globose cells 4-7 µm diam. Hymenium 70-100 µm thick, ± hyaline. Hypothecium brown. Interascal tissue of paraphyses 1.5-2 µm diam., extensively branched above, the apices strongly pigmented. Asci 40-50 x 15-20 µm, broadly clavate, 8-spored. Ascospores 13.5-15.5 x 5-6 µm, cylindrical to cylindric-clavate, 3-septate, slightly constricted at the septa, the apex and base rounded, hyaline, fairly thin-walled, smooth, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
